Sivakumar Thiyagarajan on Television

Sivakumar Thiyagarajan believes technology has the power to affect education, culture, religion and personal thoughts and beliefs. In Sivakumar Thiyagarajan’s view, our global world seems to be getting smaller as we are able to connect to people in a way that was never imagined. Sivakumar Thiyagarajan had keenly observed how radio and television played a role in affecting world political views and religious. Sivakumar Thiyagarajan has also seen the impact of television on literacy and education.  Sivakumar Thiyagarajan has used television in educational settings and has seen how beneficial it can be in spreading basic information to remote parts of the world.
Sivakumar Thiyagarajan has observed television being a very useful academic tool, and has been used in the classroom for academic purposes since the 1970s. Television programs are used to assist children in various subject areas, and are used alongside other teaching materials, to give a well rounded approach to learning materials. Sivakumar Thiyagarajan has seen how this has proved successful as children prefer learning visually at a young age.

Sivakumar Thiyagarajan is aware of research into the effects of television on children’s behavior and performance since the 1950s. The importance of the content of children's television has created governing bodies on each television network to make sure they are fulfilling their public responsibility. Sivakumar Thiyagarajan finds that the research is weighted against product demand, current issues and education, and aims to make sure that all characters are good role models.

Sivakumar Thiyagarajan finds good educational programs on channels such as national geographic, discovery, and the learning channel, as well as on general stations worldwide. Children do not only learn through informative documentary style programs but they learn skills by modeling positive behaviors on television.

Sivakumar Thiyagarajan appreciates how television can be used to tackle difficult questions in the areas of morality and ethics. Through the medium of television, children are exposed to ideas and made aware of cultures that they cannot necessarily experience for themselves.
